Alderley Park
Macclesfield, Cheshire, UK

Originally created in the 1960s as a suburban office park, Alderley Park has through the years lost some of its coherence and focus and a repositioning exercise is now necessary to ensure market competitiveness. The rejuvenated Alderley Park campus will be home to a range of companies that focus on research and development in technology and life-sciences.

Led by developers Bruntwood SciTech, the new Park will comprise a series of retained and new structures linked by spaces that encourage walking, sociability and connection to nature. Distinct districts will have different atmospheres and personalities to empower creativity and individuality whilst maintaining a district-wide coherence. Across this context, people will be prompted to interact, foster new relationships and ultimately to share concepts and ideas.

On top of the workplace functions, an injection of new amenities extends the activity of the Park beyond the working day. These will provide a healthy, nurturing environment for employees and attract visitors from the wider local community around the clock.

The Park will actively draw nature into the site, allowing plenty of space to breathe, relax or be active. Green areas will help to reconnect the lively campus with the nearby natural landmarks of Radnor Mere and Alderley Park to ensure integration with the landscape.

The scheme takes a strategic approach to adaptively reuse existing buildings, with the aim of retaining as much of their original structure as possible. The scheme will feed back into a circular economy to reuse or redistribute building material wherever possible, cutting down on unnecessary waste and cost.
