Andrei Martin Shares Insights on Co-Living with the Architects’ Journal

July 23, 2024

“Looking forward, PLP’s Martin predicts that the UK is on the brink of a tech-and-data-driven diversification boom, which will see the current co-living trend for ‘luxury, branded residences’ expand to target niches already catered for in Europe, such as co-living for single parents, or a ‘giant library’ for book lovers.”

Andrei Martin, Partner at PLP Architecture, spoke with the Architects’ Journal about the co-living sector and where he sees its future.

Andrei has a wealth of experience in designing co-living buildings and has spearheaded the evolution of their design. He led the design of world’s first large-scale co-living building, The Collective Old Oak in west London, and since then has been working to develop the typology.

Alongside other leaders in the sector, Andrei explains why he thinks co-living is currently flourishing, including the business benefits and new opportunities opened up by innovative technology.

PLP has eight co-living schemes in planning across the UK. One of these, Hardess Yards (pictured), will bring 320 studios with a range of state-of-the-art amenities and affordable workspaces for Brixton’s creative communities.
