Jade Zheng, RA, LEED AP

Associate Partner

Jade is an Associate Partner at PLP Architecture with more than eighteen years of professional experience and longstanding interests in urban development and smart cities. She brings a design process that considers futureproofed sustainability and has worked on a wide range of projects, with a particular focus on commercial complexes, cultural development, healthcare and education developments in China, the US and the Europe.

Jade’s extensive experience in China is supplemented by her deep understanding of local history and culture. In Shenzhen, she helped to create Haikou, a super high-rise landmark office tower overlooking the sea that is now progressing to construction phase. This mixed-use complex has been designed to facilitate the needs of contemporary commerce and their staff with a focus on sharing, social interaction, health and wellbeing. She worked on a master plan in Sanya that created a new destination for an historic scenic site. She also helped develop detailed design proposals for a smart office building in Chongqing and a new smart campus in Kunming.

Jade recently worked on our competition-winning proposal for Tree House, a mixed-use 140-meter-tall tower next to the Central Station in Rotterdam. The project creates a lively, inspiring, open and sustainable environment for residents and visitors in the city centre and includes residential, office, retail and coworking spaces. She is also involved with a number of our mixed-use urban development projects in Tokyo, Japan that sit on sensitive sites and knit existing neighbourhoods together.

Jade’s particular interests in smart cities and buildings allowed her to play a key role in a Smart City Prototype that we created as a research project for a top Korean electronics company. Before joining PLP Architecture, Jade worked as a partner at an award-winning architectural practice in Shanghai. Here, she was involved with a number of complex and sensitive projects, including the renovation of a 1970s silk factory in Wuzhen into a dynamic exhibition gallery for an international art festival. She has extensive experience working on high-rise projects in the country. These include the Summit, a mixed-use sustainable project in Suzhou. In the US, Jade was involved with competition winning proposal for LG’s North America Headquarters, as well as a number of sensitive hospital projects, including Harlem Hospital in New York and Ohio State University James Cancer Centre.

Jade received a Master of Architecture degree at the University of Pennsylvania, and Seoul National University in South Korea, and a Bachelor of Architecture at Chongqing University. She has served as a guest critic at Tongji University, Shanghai and Parsons School of Design, New York. She speaks fluent Mandarin.
