PLP Labs showcase mycelium blocks at Edinburgh’s Fungi Forms
September 26, 2024
PLP Labs are currently showcasing work at Fungi Forms, a groundbreaking display filling the rooms of the Inverleith House gallery at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.
Running until December 8, the exhibition focuses on the fascinating science behind all things fungus-related, spanning fashion, music and contemporary art.
Amy Porteous, Producer of Creative Programmes at the Botanic Garden explained: “Fungi are integral to life on Earth as we know it. Yet, most of us are unaware of how much they touch our lives, from their role in creating countless everyday products to profoundly impacting the crops on which we rely and taking action as our ultimate recyclers.”
PLP Labs have been experimenting with biomaterials that might offer future solutions for our built environment. As part of this work the team has developed the Mycoblock, an interconnecting building block made from a combination of 3D printed wood and mycelium. At the Fungi Forms exhibit, visitors can see a partition created from these blocks.
