PLP Architecture’s WLA AI Lab has been awarded Silver in the A&D Awards, recognising its groundbreaking contribution to workplace and research architecture. Located in Shanghai’s Lingang New Area, the WLA AI Lab is the world’s first purpose-built AI research facility, designed to support cutting-edge artificial intelligence R&D in a highly specialised environment.
Developed in collaboration with Parkland Group, the 47,400m² facility redefines the landscape for AI research, integrating state-of-the-art Super Labs, Data Centres, and collaborative research spaces within a flexible, future-proofed architectural framework. The building’s design fosters transparency and innovation, placing key research activities on display and prioritising interaction between AI specialists.
Adding to its success, the WLA AI Lab has also been shortlisted for the WAN Awards, with winners set to be announced on 24th March.
