Dubbed ‘The 9th City of Delhi’, Aerocity is set to become India’s first sustainable Transit Oriented Development with over 30 million square feet of mixed-use commercial development and a working population of over 100,000. Within the new district, PLP Architecture have designed over 7 million square feet of mixed-use office, retail and hospitality space across a number of different sites.

Capitalising on its proximity to the Delhi International Airport, Aerocity will cover over 230 hectares creating an active commercial hub representing the largest planned development in India’s capital since Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker planned New Delhi in the early 20th century. Perhaps more importantly, Aerocity is planned with a civic vision and a commitment to the public realm that characterise successful mixed-use developments globally. Our challenge was reconciling a high-density development with a generous provision of open public space that is adequate for Delhi’s climate.

Our design brings a new form of urbanism to Delhi, combining innovative office, retail and hospitality architecture with a public realm that enhances people’s quality of life and the ecology of the local area.

PLP’s contributions to the site include the design of Worldmark 4, 5 & 6, Worldmark 7, and the Worldmall.

PLP Architecture were engaged to design an office-led mixed-use development at Aerocity’s Gateway District, setting the standard for the next generation of smart and sustainable office buildings at Aerocity. We were inspired by the masterplan vision aiming to break away from the model of inward-facing developments and introduce an active and permeable public realm, creating an exciting new environment for office users and the general public. Our challenge was reconciling a high-density development with a generous provision of open public space that is adequate for Delhi’s climate.

PLP have been commissioned to design two iterations of the building, the first for client GMR and the second for Bharti.

Worldmark 7 is poised to set a new benchmark in premium office design within the dynamic Aerocity Gateway District.  Its strategic location, directly adjacent to India’s largest shopping destination – the PLP-designed Worldmall – positions the building as a vibrant node for professional, retail, and social activity.

PLP Architecture were commissioned to design the Worldmall, a novel concept mega-retail facility at Aerocity’s Gateway District in Delhi, India. This new mall creates a next generation of retail, dining and entertainment facilities that stands to compete on the global stage. At 196,000m2, this new retail experience will be India’s largest mall when completed. Our design vision was driven by the idea of replacing the traditional shopping mall with a place to meet, exchange and connect, galvanising the latest trends in retail and harnessing the power of digital experiences and technology.
