Dr. Marta Gonzalez-Ruiz, ARB

Director

Marta is a registered architect with extensive experience in master planning, mix-use and residential projects who has worked with leading architectural practices in London, New York and Madrid. Marta is a member of the design team leading projects across UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Her wide-ranging experience in master planning has a strong focus on strategies and innovation. She applies qualitative and quantitative methods towards creating future proofed, smart, sustainable, healthy, creative, and resilient designs that meet the needs of occupiers and clients’ goals.

In London, Marta is currently working in Transport for London’s Hounslow East Regeneration to develop a residential community above a bus station and depot to deliver circa 800 homes. She has also led the vision and development masterplan of Old Oak Park, the Cargiant site at Old Oak Common, a very challenging site from an infrastructure point of view with a complex stakeholders mapping.

Marta participated in the conceptualisation of the design for the masterplan vision for the Uchsaiwaicho 1-Chome district, the largest development site in the metropolitan area of Tokyo. A new 230 hectare green heart of the city with four towers siting on an elevated green public realm. Marta led the design of Krea University Campus, a bold new educational campus in India focused on liberal arts and sciences. The campus combines innovative ideas for education with distinct new spatial typologies, creating a living laboratory for students and teachers to experiment with. Marta’s previous experience extends from the design of the New York Observation Wheel on Staten Island to a number of mixed-use developments in New York including ‘Industry City’ in Brooklyn, working on the master planning and adaptation of existing buildings and ‘WeWork’ offices in Dock 72, a new 16 storey building providing shared work spaces and amenities for innovative entrepreneurs in Brooklyn Navy Yard as well as Ponce City Market in Atlanta, a mix-use regeneration development located in an historic building complex and residential projects in Manhattan, New York.

In Spain, Marta worked on the management plan for the reorganization of existing and new services and facilities of an Education Children School and an Adults’ Assisted Living and Day Care Centre in Madrid; and design proposals for residential, institutional and public realm projects including a residential masterplan for El Campus Universitario de Zaragoza and the Tribunal de lo Contencioso Administrativo Campus de la Justicia, Madrid. Marta achieved her PhD in History, Drawing and Construction Architectural Graphic Design Department at the ETSAM Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in February 2016. She received a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University in New York following the completion of her Master of Advanced Studies (Certificate of Research Proficiency,) and Bachelor and Master of Architecture at ETSAM. She was also granted with an Erasmus scholarship to the Università Politècnica di Milano in Italy.
