PLP host Scaling Circularity, a conversation on sustainable design

October 4, 2024

Last night, PLP Architecture hosted “Scaling Circularity,” a panel discussion held at our London studio that explored the role that circular design principles need to play in the built environment.

The panel discussions revolved around implementing approaches to circularity at all scales throughout our urban environments.

The event was moderated by Dr Robert Schmidt III from Loughborough University and included Ron Bakker, Midori Ainoura, Marta Gonzalez-Ruiz, Amy Holtz, Deepthi Ravi and Michael Polisano from PLP.

Michael Polisano, PLP’s Industrial Design lead, spoke about how a change in mentality is needed to no longer look at things as waste but as future resources and opportunities. And, how growing technologies help us to do this through initiatives like material passports.

Marta Gonzalez-Ruiz, Director at PLP, highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in fostering circular economy practices at both the city, and even global, scale to tackle environmental challenges.

Lee Polisano, President of PLP Architecture, remarked, “Scaling Circularity has given us the opportunity to come together and exchange ideas on how we can collectively rethink waste, materials and ultimately the entire life cycle of buildings.

There is an urgency to this, of which we’re very aware. With our current practices, our planet simply cannot sustain the level of development that we expect to come over the next century without changing how we build.”

The event concluded with a networking session to continue the discussion and expand on the ideas raised.

PLP Architecture looks forward to continuing the dialogue on circularity through future initiatives and collaborations.

For those who couldn’t attend, recordings of the event will be available soon on our website. Follow us on LinkedIn and Instagram to stay informed of future events.
