Ray Allen

Senior Associate Partner

Ray is a senior model maker who joined PLP Architecture after having worked as an architectural model maker at KPF London and an independent model making studio in London.

At the forefront of incorporating innovative techniques and 3D printing with traditional model making methods, Ray helps the studio to excel at creating high-quality models within strict time constraints. Ray has worked on models for projects including the Qatar City masterplan, as well as The Francis Crick Institute, Nova Victoria and the Sampson House and Ludgate House development, all in London. His model for a residential building in Mayfair combines photo-etched and chemically patinated bronze with tinted and laser-cut wood veneers.

As well as contributing to models exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Ray helped to create the studio’s award-winning Le Petit Can, a 7000-can sculpture for an international competition in support of the non-profit organisation Canstruction®.

Ray also enjoys working with stop frame animation puppets, ceramics, museum interactives, product design, blacksmithing, welding, wood-turning, 3D digital modelling, computer-aided design, technical drawing and racing his home-built track car on track days at the Nürburgring and at Silverstone.

Before gaining a BA (Hons) in Model Making from The Kent Institute of Art and Design (University for the Creative Arts) in 2006, Ray studied product design at the University of Central Lancashire, during which he was a runner up for the Audi Young Designer Award.
