Aoyama Retail Development, Tokyo, Japan

An innovative new retail experience, this curving glazed building spreads over three undulating levels to bring visual intrigue to an historic Tokyo neighbourhood. The ground floor is visually open, with a large and column-free space providing a dynamic area for retail or f+b options. The the first is more enclosed to allow more private functions to take place, such as back-of-house, kitchens and or client meeting rooms. The rooftop is crowned with a planted roofscape, accessible to the street via a curving staircase and helping to increase the neighbourhood’s green appearance.

Chunxi Lu Commercial Complex

123 Zeil, Frankfurt, Germany

Located in the heart of Frankfurt’s historical city centre, the design of the boutique hotel/retail building affirms its key presence on one of the city’s most prestigious shopping streets.

The building completes the frontage of a highly active public plaza. Contextually and programmatically, the relationship with the ground is very important. The building is lifted allowing the public space to flow continuously. Similarly, at the top, a floating pavilion containing a restaurant hovers above the main volume. Between the two volumes, an open air public terrace overlooks the historical city.

Salesforce Tower, London, UK

Heron Tower is a response to a clearly identified need for highly serviced modern office space for international companies at the heart of London. The site, at the junction of Bishopsgate, Houndsditch and Camomile Street, has been a significant gateway to the City of London since Roman times. Responding to the technical and social demands of the new workplace, the building is arranged around a series of three story atria or villages, which will serve as gathering spaces for thirteen different tenants in the building.

World Trade Centre, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The renovated World Trade Center project is a case study showing how a 1960s structure, anti-urban in its form, can be reconceived as a project which initiates the regeneration of a whole quarter of the city. The WTC Amsterdam is located in the most attractive area of South Amsterdam adjacent to WTC/Zuid, the main railway station. It forms the gateway to the city’s ambitious new masterplan devised by the city authorities to turn Zuidas into a dense business and residential quarter reinforced by new cultural, educational and recreational facilities. However, the existing buildings of the World Trade Centre – four 1960s office slabs connected by lower structures and open courtyards – were dark and unwelcoming.

27 Old Bond Street, London, UK

The DKNY store at 27 Old Bond Street was the first Donna Karan flagship store. The building is a radical reconstruction, retaining only the facades of the existing 1920s building adjacent to the listed Royal Arcade.
