Aoyama Retail Development, Tokyo, Japan

An innovative new retail experience, this curving glazed building spreads over three undulating levels to bring visual intrigue to an historic Tokyo neighbourhood. The ground floor is visually open, with a large and column-free space providing a dynamic area for retail or f+b options. The the first is more enclosed to allow more private functions to take place, such as back-of-house, kitchens and or client meeting rooms. 123 Zeil, Frankfurt, Germany

Located in the heart of Frankfurt’s historical city centre, the design of the boutique hotel/retail building affirms its key presence on one of the city’s most prestigious shopping streets.

The building completes the frontage of a highly active public plaza. Contextually and programmatically, the relationship with the ground is very important. The building is lifted allowing the public space to flow continuously. Similarly, at the top, a floating pavilion containing a restaurant hovers above the main volume. Between the two volumes, an open air public terrace overlooks the historical city.

Osong Biovalley Masterplan, Korea

In an attempt to decentralise its national government, South Korea is building Sejong City, a new administrative capital in the centre of the country. Osong Biovalley forms a satellite of this new town, and a hub for the biotechnology industry close to central government. PLP and Tomoon Architect’s entry into an international competition for the Osong Masterplan reimagines the structure of a Korean city to create new forms of collectivity for a research oriented community, breaking the mould of traditional science parks by preserving nature amidst a dense urban environment.

Eighty Eight Wood Lane, London, UK

As part of Imperial College London’s master plan for Imperial West at Wood Lane in West London, we are designing two buildings: a technology transfer building and a 35-storey residential tower. The new residential building will combine private and key worker accommodation including apartments for lecturers, researchers and trainee doctors and their families to help attract and retain the college’s key staff.

Jamsil, Seoul, Korea

Our proposal for the Jamsil Sports Complex masterplan in Seoul, operates simultaneously at mega-large and infinitesimally small scales to introduce a new urban ligament based on the city’s hillside alleyways. Connecting the site with Gangnam to the west, the Golmok Bridge establishes a primary experiential conduit through Jamsil as a counterpoint to the oversized, generic superblock perimeter streets. Around this conduit, three distinct neighbourhoods, galvanized around two retained stadia and a proposed convention centre, irrigate the bridge with activity.

Qatar Master Plan Doha, Qatar

The new Tianjin Binhai International Airport (IATA: TSN, ICAO: ZBTJ) is located east of Tianjin, in Dongli District in Northeastern China. The design of the project, won in an international competition, provides for the phased expansion of the development. Besides the new signature terminal building that serves as a gateway to this fourth largest city in China, the scheme includes the design of new runways, a new automated people mover system (APM) and main rail connection. The phased expansion will provide a state-of-the-art terminal building that triples the airport’s current capacity to a scale similar to that of Schiphol Airport, when completed.

Whitechapel Estate, London, UK

London’s Whitechapel is a vibrant, historic and ethnically-diverse district known for its street markets. Unlike neighbouring Aldgate which borders the City of London and which had witnessed significant private development in the past few years, development in Whitechapel has revolved mainly around the new Royal London Hospital and the construction of associated research and medical facilities. This is now set to change when the new Crossrail station opens in Whitechapel, significantly increasing its connectivity to other parts of London and attracting new residents.
